Wepecket Whisperings
Published sporadically when there's news.      Volume 1, No. 5; August, 2010

New release:

Jim McGrath's latest CD, "Last of the Romantics," now available online here, has been getting some excellent airplay lately. Special thanks to DJs Ron Olesko (WFDU), Norm Whitman (WYSO), Robert Resnick (Vermont Public Radio), J.W. Stein (WTBQ), Taylor Caffery (WRKF), Dan Alloway (WTEP), Matt Baya (WERU), Lenny Epstein (KRFC), Mara Noelle (KVMR), Gary Irving (WVUD) and Peter Kernast & John Bates (WTSR).

New logo:

Paula Frederick has come on board as our graphics designer. Here's a sneak peak at her re-design of our logo. This is the black-and-white prototype. Our official colors will be set shortly, and we'll be phasing the new logo into our web site and eventually into all our graphics.

Watch also for new Wepecket merchandise. We'll have shot glasses, coffee mugs and some very intriguing bumper stickers shortly on our new merchandise page.

On the road:

Sherman Lee Dillon is on tour in Canada for the first half of September. Andy Cohen has gotten busy lately, as well, with the release of a CD on Earwig, "Built Right On The Ground." Dale Robin's still recovering from hand surgery, but should be back on the road again soon. Jim McGrath is heading up the Reprobates' umpteenth "Final" reunion at Mahogany Shoals on Block Island Aug. 30 & 31. The Wepecket dishwasher is even taking on a few gigs! Details for all our touring artists are at www.wepecket.com/tourdates.htm.

We're now booking our Spring 2011 "Rolling Roots Revue." Appearances in New York State and Pennsylvania, then down the eastern slope of the Piedmont and back up the shoreline, April 26-May 15.

Jack is headed for Portland, OR, for a week, Sept. 1-7, to meet with Lauren Sheehan about her contributions to the "Pick A Peck Of Piedmont Pickers" CD due for an October release. He'll also do some scouting of potential Wepecket family additions.

On the home front:

Our new First-Sunday-of-the-Month concert series was kicked off in grand fashion on Aug. 1 at Black Watch Pub in New Bedford. Joanne Doherty gave us a stunning opening set, and then Sherman Lee and the Dillonaires took the stage and dazzled, delighted and warmed a very good crowd. Next up is Andy Cohen on Sept. 5. Fellow Wepecketeer Russ Mello will take the stage first. Show time is 6-9 p.m. Tickets and info at www.wepecket.com/tourdates.htm. Andy will also be conducting a guitar workshop that afternoon. He's not only a finger-picking whiz, he's a terrific teacher. Enrollment is limited, so e-mail him at rivnrev@earthlink.net to reserve a spot.

Thanks for helping us keep the music alive!
